SHAWN NORGRIFF is an Audio Engineer, member of IATSE AFL-CIO Union Local No. One, and the President/CEO of Ultra Audio Sound-2, Inc. A Brooklynnative, raised between Brooklyn, NY and Trinidad W.I., Shawn’s professional career began at the age of 14, garnering inspiration from NYC HOT 97fm radio personality FLEX, and as a start- up DJ/protégée’ of local Brooklyn HIP HOP DJ/promoter Howie T. After placing 3 in the semi-finals of the NYC Technique DMC DJ competition, Shawn was introduced to HOT 97 event promoter Jessica R through a mutual friend. Jessica invited Shawn to spin at HOT 97 parties, dubbing him DJ Quik because of his fast spinning skills. Before long Shawn was a paid DJ for block parties, Brooklyn’s annual West Indian Carnival “Mas” parade, and various music industry events. It was during one of Jessica’s events that he was introduced to Queen Latifa, who invited him to join her record label Flava Unit on what would be his first tour to Los Angeles for the Soul Train Music Awards. Several years later Shawn experienced a life changing revelation when he attended a Phil Collins concert and was blown away by the stylized sound of Phil’s audio engineer, Rob Copley. He would by chance later connect with Rob at an Audio Engineering Society (AES) conference. Impressed by the exchange with the then 30 year old Shawn and his depth of knowledge, Rob asked “Have you ever considered doing LIVE sound?” Shortly after, Shawn enrolled in and graduated top of his class from the Institute of Audio Research (IAS), purchased his first professional sound equipment, registered Ultra Audio Sound-2, Inc., and began providing sound for various clients including Brookdale Medical Center’s corporate holiday gala in Brooklyn, NY. Since then Shawn has toured as a Front of the house and monitor engineer with numerous local and major bands, recording artists and plays. Shawn is also a gifted drummer, has designed sound for various productions, such as Mike Tyson’s one man show in Monte Carlo, France, designed and built a Line Array speaker system from scratch, and developed additional concepts he hopes to patent in the near future.
